Patients with thyroid dysfunction have taken or are currently taking synthetic thyroid hormones, such as levothyroxine and liothyronine. Commercially available levothyroxine and liothyroxine contains fillers and ingredients that not all patients are able to tolerate.
Hypersensitivity reactions have occurred in patients treated with levothyroxine, liothyroxine and other synthetic thyroid products that have fillers and ingredients added. These include urticaria (hives), pruritus (itching), skin rash, flushing, angioedema, various GI symptoms (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea), fever, arthralgia (joint pain) and wheezing. Hypersensitivity to levothyroxine itself is not known to occur.
Customized levothyroxine or liothyroxine is available only through compounding pharmacies like Rx for all Pharmacy, where we are able to omit any ingredients that patients may be having issues with. We can blend T4 and T3 pure powders in a specific ratio according to your prescription.
